Tomb of Lazarus

Bethany, a small village located about 3km from Jerusalem on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives, held special significance for Jesus. Here, he found comfort and friendship with Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, whom he famously raised from the dead in the village cemetery. Despite being called upon when Lazarus fell ill, Jesus intentionally delayed his arrival to demonstrate his divine power. This miracle, however, intensified the resolve of religious leaders in Jerusalem to seek his death. Bethany is also remembered for two other events: when Jesus praised Mary for choosing to listen to him rather than help with chores, and when Mary anointed Jesus’s feet with expensive ointment in preparation for his burial.
