Magdala

Magdala, a prominent first-century port on the Sea of Galilee, was a hub of trade and exporter of salted fish to European markets. Recent archaeological discoveries have turned it into a popular pilgrimage site, famed for its association with Mary Magdalene, a revered figure in Christian tradition. Though her exact connection to Magdala is uncertain, she is celebrated as one of the few witnesses to Christ’s crucifixion and Resurrection. Situated between Tiberias and Capernaum, Magdala is mentioned briefly in the Gospel of Matthew (15:39), though some early manuscripts refer to it as Magadan.
